How Computers Use Domain Names

Back to DNS overview
When you want to view a website, you specify a location such as "Atlbiz.Com" which instructs your web browser where you want to go. The web browser will then ask the DNS system for the current IP address for "Atlbiz.Com". The DNS system will look up the address and return the information to your web browser. Your browser will then open a connection to the IP address it received and begin downloading the website.
